As over 100,000 students name deleted from taking the 2025 West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), the Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Solomon Segepoh Thomas has ordered the summoning of the Minister of Basic Education and Senior Secondary Schools to face the House for explanation.
The Speaker stated that the issue is a serious one, given that it involves a huge number of students to be left out from taking such a transitional examination.
Members of Parliament from both sides of aisle have also expressed concerns for such a large number to be prevented from taking the examinations.
In an angry mood displayed by the Hon Member of Parliament from Kambia district, Hon Abdul Karim Kamara has raised concerns over the alleged deletion of some one hundred thousand pupils from taking part in this year’s 2025 West African Senior Secondary School Examinations.
According to him, the Ministry of Education removed that huge number from taking the exams without prior knowledge of the pupils.
He said the Ministry didn’t do the deletion of those pupils properly which he noted has affected not only the pupils but parents who have sponsored their children from SSS1 to SSS3.
He said the Ministry used the CASS system to enlist the pupils arguing that some of these pupils have moved to other schools and that the ministry should have used their BRS to ensure that those pupils don’t miss the exams.
Responding, the Committee Chairman Foday Alpha Madi Jabbie, stated that the Ministry of Education deleted from the exams list as a result of the fake list of BRS submitted.
In his submission, the Hon Paramount Chief of Falaba District, Terrenah Tortor Tongor 3rd, also raised concerns that thousands of students in their district have missed this year’s exams.
The Speaker of Parliament, Hon Segepoh Solomon Thomas has asked the clerks to summon the minister of education to face Parliament for questioning.
