The Ministry of Planning and Economic Development has signed an agreement to bring in solar lights that will empower many Sierra Leoneans.

The compact seeks to ensure the deployment and installation of one thousand five hundred (1,500) solar street lights along major public roads and rural areas of Sierra Leone.
The aim of the project is to have sustainable solar lights in all regions in the country with a view to addressing the country’s electricity challenges.
According to the agreement, four hundred and ten (410) solar lights will be installed in the southern region; two hundred and ninety (290) in the eastern region; three hundred and seventy (370) in the northern region, three hundred (300) in the western region and one hundred and thirty (130) to be installed in various academic institutions.
The project will also create local employment for young people as recruiting personnel will assemble, install and maintenance the solar lights.
