In a case that has captured local attention, four individuals appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No.1, accused of manufacturing and distributing the illegal substance known as “kush.”
The accused, Andrew Momoh Jah (a bike rider), Daniel Kamara (a laborer), Zainab Kamara (a businesswoman), and Thomas Leigh Koroma (unemployed), are facing 13 counts of drug-related offenses.
The charges stem from an incident on November 20th, 2024, at No. 66 Kanu Drive, Temne Town, Allen Town, where the accused were allegedly found producing kush without lawful authority.
The charges include manufacturing, producing, and distributing prohibited drugs without lawful authority, transporting and collecting substances used for drug production, possession and sale of prohibited drugs.
Detective Sergeant 5659 Amara Safiya from the Criminal Investigations Department testified as the lead investigator. He presented key evidence, including a search warrant and statements from the first two accused, which were tendered in court as exhibits C1-13 and D1-10.
Safiya recounted how on February 5th, 2025, he obtained a caution statement from the third accused which was recorded in English, explained to them in Krio and confirmed with a right-hand thumbprint.
Detective Sergeant 5859 Sundu witnessed and signed the statement which was marked as exhibit E1-16.
He further testified that on November 21st, 2024, he recorded a voluntary statement from the fourth accused, also in English, after explaining the content in Krio.
This statement was tendered as exhibit F1-13.
On November 22nd, 2024, the Cyber Unit of the Sierra Leone Police provided the call logs of all the accused, presented in court as exhibit H1-2. A list of 33 additional exhibits was also submitted, including items seized during the investigation.
Safiya stated that on December 19th, 2024, he received legal advice from the Law Officer’s Department, which was tendered as exhibit K1-2.
By December 21st, 2024, Detective Sergeant 9589 Jabati assisted him in officially charging the accused after cautioning and questioning them in Krio.
The charge statements were recorded in English and presented in court as exhibits M1-4 and N1-4.
Magistrate Kekura refused bail due to the gravity of the offense and adjourned the matter to February 19th, 2025 for further hearing.
