Hardship, greed, egocentric tendencies, selfishness and abject poverty, among others are the factors eating deep into the fabric of our sense of nationality and mutual love for one another in Sierra Leone today.
As a people, we should encourage ourselves in order to put all these socio-economic factors behind us as to think as one and have similar aims, objectives and a common target.
The only way we can develop as a country, is to have a very strong innate tendency inculcated into us to always remind us that, we have a commitment to our country because there is nowhere in the world today we can proudly claim nationality without facing alienation.
The only home for us where we can enjoy freedom and affection is in our country Sierra Leone.
Therefore, we should not allow the country to be buried deep into the abyss of ignominy, a situation where we shall lose our sound National and International credibility and reputation, cherished gifts which are now almost at stake.
Much is expected from every Sierra Leonean, big or small towards national development of this country, but the educated elite we ranked higher almost made as demi-god, by the uneducated and illiterate group are the same people who do not have the Country at heart.
Unfortunately, the illiterate people have been disappointed for the people they choose as demi-gods have sunken too deeply into corruption and hypocrisy and they are the unshakable.
This had been displayed by many in the past and the present is nothing to write home about today.
One good example is the attitude displayed by a group of driver, Policemen and by extension civil servants who are the most corrupt in the society today.
Traffic Police are busy collecting money as bribes from drivers plying Calaba town to Eastern police station of which authorities concerned are fully aware of the ugly incidents but set blind eyes on it. Traffic Police Officers have what is referred to as invisible check points that people do not see physically but exists at the detriment of the people. The booking ranges from Le 20,000 to Le 50,000
What guarantee do the people of Sierra Leone have to rely on such sets of people, when it is now habitual that drivers continue to go half way at the detriment of the people, and civil servants eat public money with little or no respect for the State.
The irony is that those in authority are part of the corrupt practice that is going on in the country and they are fully aware to the problems of corruption in the country.
Heads of schools asked parents to pay for what they referred to as extra charges like development funds, parents Teachers’ association, sports etc.
Ironically, it is these same people who are accusing politicians of being traitors and criminals.
The culprits should bow their heads in shame.
