After a poor show, Leone Stars’ hopes have ended at the bay.
Their hopes to take part in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco has dashed away following Zambia’s 1-0 victory over Ivory Coast on Friday.
This result secured Zambia’s a top position in Group G of the Qualifiers, seeing Sierra Leone being eliminated from the contest in Morocco next year.
After a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Chad on Wednesday, Sierra Leone’s hopes were pinned on Ivory Coast win against Zambia. With Zambia’s victory now, even a win for Sierra Leone, in their final group game against Zambia in Monrovia on November 19th would not be enough for the Leone Stars to qualify again.
This comes as a disappointment to fans who were hopeful after the team’s recent draw against Chad. The Leone Stars had a poor start in the qualifiers.
The focus now shifts to the future as the Leone Stars look to regroup and rebuild for their forthcoming campaigns. For the second time, fans are calling on Coach Amidu Karim and his backroom staff to resign based on their woeful show.
