South Africa beat Salone U-20 4-1 on Tuesday, May 6, at the Suez Canal Stadium in Ismailia, in their final group match at the U-20 Africa Cup.
South Africa led 1-0 at halftime and went on to extend their advantage in the second half, scoring three more goals to managed to pull one back, but they were unable to mount a full comeback.
The loss means the shooting stars will not finish first in Group A. They had already secured a spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Tanzania in their previous match.
The team will now shift their focus to the knockout stages, where every match is crucial.
