The Chief Corporate Affairs Officer of the leading mobile phone Company in Sierra Leone Africell, Joe Abass Bangura has said in Freetown that the Company has spent twenty two billion Leones (Le22Bn) in 2022 on their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in the country.
“Yes Africell has spent twenty two billion Leones on our Corporate Social Responsibility in 2022. We are supporting twenty hours electricity supply to over fifty radio stations nationwide. Some radio stations were running for two hours a day but with our intervention they are now providing twenty hours service to the various communities,” Mr. Bangura said last Thursday while updating the general public on their Corporate Social Responsibility. He pointed out that the support cuts across including education, entertainment, youth empowerment, cultural activities, sports, national events, media and communications.
He said they have reconstructed, rehabilitated and refurbished several schools in various parts across the country. Mr. Bangura said the amount excludes their interventions in capital projects.
It could be recalled that the Company has also participated on several national events as part of their commitment to associate themselves with the government and people of Sierra Leone. The people of Sierra Leone also saw the commissioning of the Kenema Clock Tower by President Julius Maada Bio with funds provided by Africell.
The First Lady, Mrs. Fatima Bio has recently lauded the Company for their positive interventions in the Hands Off Our Girls Campaign among several other projects. The Company also supported the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) with hundreds of thousands of United States dollars, excluding those sponsored to take part in the African Nations Cup tournament in Cameroon. It is also on record that the Company appointed several artists as Brand Ambassadors last year.
