Despite repeated calls from local community for the relocation of the Akram dumping site (Bumeh) at Bai Bureh Road, Kissy to protect them from perennial health hazards which have sometimes led to serious illnesses and deaths over the years, have continued to fall in deaf ears with concerned authorities often turning blind eyes. The situation often gets worse during the dries when the environment is always covered with thick smoke bellowing from the huge refuse.
The situation has now gotten even worse with lot of potholes around the entrance of the dumping site which is causing unnecessary traffic congestion that area.
Talking to this reporter, community stakeholders and commuters from the east of Freetown made a clarion call on the Sierra Leone Roads Authority to fill the potholes without further delay to reduce traffic congestion and prevent unforeseeable accidents.
Others called on the Mackie Cement Company Chief Executive Officer to undertake their corporate service responsibility since their factory shares fence with the dumping site and their vehicles including long trailers are using the front gate of the dumping site to take their materials in and out the factory.
