Africa Muslim Agency (AMA) Junior Secondary School, Kissy town, Waterloo is in dire need of support from government, NGOs and other well-meaning organizations and individuals.
This call has been made by the Principal Mr. Alim Conteh who said the school is facing difficult challenges chiefly, finance to pay volunteer or community teachers who he said are helping a lot, repair furniture and take care of other needs.
Mr. Conteh said the building currently housing the school needs proper rehabilitation to make it convenient for the children. He revealed that the building was once used by Africa Muslim Agency, a nongovernmental Muslim organization now called Direct Aid for different purpose. “As you can see, we really need to do something to improve this school structurally that will reflect on the output or performance of the students in school as well as public examinations. But that of course again involves money as everything is expensive these days,” Mr. Conteh stressed, insisting that the school doesn’t have other means to generate funds but rather depends wholly on subsidies government provides.
According to Principal Alim Conteh in most cases they receive this subsidy very late, but that notwithstanding they have been doing everything humanly possible to keep the school running amidst other numerous difficult challenges.
“However, I am proud that despite the odds we are still working hard to ensure that things keep moving,” he added.
It is against this backdrop and the general improvement of the school that principal Alim Conteh has made the clarion call for help.
