As the All People’s Congress APC delegate’s convention gaining momentum ahead, one of the best candidates for the party’s flagship race come 2026, Dr. Ibrahim Bangura has been accepted by 95% of APC delegates to contest for party’s presidential aspirant.
Speaking to some legitimate representatives or delegates and grassroot supporters at consistency 007, 077, 076, 113, 114 and those in other constituencies across the country, they told Africa24 newspaper that leadership qualities and the productive works by Dr. Ibrahim Bangura over the years are unmatched by anyone. He is coming in the race as the party seeks for a stainless, fearless and young dynamic leader with huge pedigree of experience in international peace building, good governance and a track record in service delivery.
Many believe Dr. Bangura is a true native of APC from its academy who hopes to bring the party back to power come 2028 general elections in Sierra Leone.
Massah Massaquoi, a final year student at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone, spoke of Professor Ibrahim Bangura, who is an Associate Professor and a seasoned, and a senior lecturer at Peace and Conflict Studies Department at FBC.
He has a long standing experience with a merit-based performane globally.
She believes in Professor Bangura, seeing him as a beacon of hope in the political landscape of the country especially within the APC and in the eyes of the people of Sierra Leone.
“We strongly believe in his dreams and visions. He is a global lecturer and mentor to many in the field of academia. He has produced productive men and women who are presently in positions of trust in society across the world,” she said.
Momoh Vandy, resident of IMATT, west of Freetown, shared his opinion through this medium about Dr. Bangura.
“He is a humanitarian and generous personality in society,” he said.
Adding the APC leading flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Bangura is a great leader, judging his career track records.
“Dr. Bangura would surely make tangible changes in the country in development, improvement on the cost of living, while graduates would have hope of getting jobs,” he noted.
Honorable Hawanatu Kanu also shared her thought about the politician.
She said she knows Prof. Ibrahim Bangura as an Associate Professor in the Department of Peace and Conflict Studies at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone.
Running through his academic qualifications, Dr Bangura holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science and History, and a master’s degree in Gender Studies from the University of Sierra Leone. Additionally, he has a master’s in International Development Studies from the University of Amsterdam and a doctorate in Economics from the Leipzig Graduate School of Management in Germany.
And so he is capable to move the party and the nation to another level come 2028 if voted at APC’s primaries.
Young Generation Leader, Mohamed Kamara emphasized his support for Prof. Bangura.
He said he admired him for his extensive experience in Disarmament, Demobilization, and Reintegration of ex-combatants (DDR), as well as in gender studies and child protection.
Personally, Dr Bangura’s research interests include transitional justice, security sector reform, sustainable livelihoods, and conflict resolution in Africa.
“We are calling on all APCians especially the eligible delegates to vote in Dr. Ibrahim Bangura as party flagbearer and presidential leader in the upcoming 2026 APC Convention,” he appealed.
However, speaking of his achievements, he has been recognized a lot.
In recognition of his academic contributions, Prof. Bangura was selected as 2024/25 Africa Oxford Initiative (AfOx) Visiting Fellow at the Oxford Department of International Development.
