Several supporters of the opposition All People’s Congress (APC) have expressed concern over what they described as lack of independence of the party’s elders council and veterans.
The lack of truth of these organs they charged, have had serious ramifications on the party’s effective operations especially for future elections.
What is more disturbing, one Isata Kamara stated, is the inconsistent manner in which these Elders Council/Veterans behave, they would say one now and contemplate on another the next moment.
The huge number of intending flag bearers for the party especially from parliament, according Isata, is lack of proper coordination by Elders Council/veterans, organs who are charged with the responsibility to provide an oversight and give advice when and where necessary, which she said is completely lacking.
“At this critical time, we expect our political leaders in the party to have a consensus candidate with national appeal which will stand to challenge the incumbent SLPP candidate come 2028,” Isaac Massaquoi stated.
What is more painful, he explained, is the divisions within the party, which he insists have the propensity to further affect the 2028 elections chances if swift measure are not put in place to address the situation.
Issac, a native of Moyamba District has accused the Elders Council and the party’s veterans of not prioritizing the peace of the party.
“Every one of them has a candidate. They are pretending that everything is going well but deep down in their hearts they know things are not normal. They are hiding something in their cupboards. With such disunity, how do they expect the party to win elections,” Massaquoi asked rhetorically.
Another aggrieved supporter Musa Mansaray who resides in Calaba Towo, claimed that the APC Elders Council comprised of people with docile ideas who are not fit to be part of the modern politics.
According to these aggrieved supporters, most of their elders have the interest of other political parties and support candidates in those parties and with the slightest, the will leave the APC stranded in the cold.
They said many of them are going through excruciating pains and ordeals humiliations without the intervention of any of these elders.
Mansaray stressed that those organs are no longer relevant in the party, given that they are not doing the needful rather they only expect palm greasing.
“They fear to tell the party leadership the truth,” he furthered charged.
John Conteh from Waterloo said they are yet to see headway in the coming elections because, Dr Samura’s camp is still seriously fighting for electoral justice while the party has turned against him and have asked the membership to move on.
These disgruntled supporters said all such brouhaha wouldn’t have happened if the elders have done their homework well. They however expressed that things will be well soon.
