Supporters of the All People’s Congress (APC) party who spoke to this medium have urged the hierarchy of the party to unite before 2028 general elections or risk to remain in permanent opposition.
Amadu Jalloh one of the party’s faithful, said one of their representatives in Patliament has already highlighted many key challenges faced by the APC especially disunity among stakeholders, which he said has already split the party into factions.
“The APC party has risked losing the forthcoming 2028 elections because it has already been divided into splinter groups. Our party is acutually not in good shape and everyone is afraid to talk about the cabal or ready to preach peace,” he added in anger.
What is more disturbing, he explained, is that executive members instead of them working in the interest of the party are busy undermining each other for personal gains.
According to Jalloh, the “electoral justice team” still believe that Dr. Samura Kamara, the former 2018 and 2023 presidential hopeful could be pronounced as President, while the executive and other party members have since negated the idea and have urged the party move on.
“I still fervently believe that the APC is not prepared and ready for the 2028 elections, because everyone wants to be president. Just at a time when the party executive are expected to urge for unity to bring the party back to power, they are instead resigning enmass to contest for flagship. This is just too sad,” Jalloh fumed.
Another aggrieved supporter, Augustine Julius Kamara from Calaba Town said that the the executive are not serious, advancing the abandonment the electoral justice fight as a clear manifestation of weak leadership.
He also said that the conditions in the tripartite document are yet to be implemented and but even as that the executivedo not care about it.
In one interview at Tumac Radio, one of the aspiring candidates for the flagbearer, Ady Macauley, one of the Lawyers of Dr Samura Kamara and the APC party said, the party has not neglected the electoral justice fight but are working side by side in preparation for the 2028 general elections.
He said, he decided to expressed interest for the flagship position in readiness for the general elections.
“We are preparing for the election and the same time, looking at the electoral justice. We don’t want what happened in 2023 to repeat itself. The APC stands ready for any elections,” he affirmed.
Another flagbearer of the party, Osman Timbo Esq. has told local media that the party is focusing on rebranding itself and ready to come to power.
Timbo pointed out that, what happened in 2023 will never repeat itself and assured of the party’s brightest future.
In Port Loko, the APC National Women Congress Chairlady, Mariama Lowe Bangura also bragged that the party will not tolerate what happened in 2023 elections.
“We are working to unite the party as well as empowering women who stand ready for 2028 elections,” she said.
Grassroots supporters have expressed dismay over what they perceived as weakness of the APC to accept the outcome of the 2023 elections.
Therefore, many said the APC is yet to prepare to take governance, citing the earlier preparation of the governing SLPP party.
“While we are fighting each other, the SLPP is moving forward with their lower level elections. In fact, we are not united as a party,” one Kadiatu Conteh stated in frustration.
She said so far over 20 members have expressed interest for the flagship position which she said risk of deep divisions in the party.
However, others call for unity and cohesion within the party or risk losing future elections.
