Members of the Approved School Ex-Players Association (ASEA), have elected and appointed a 23 -Man Executive to mann the affairs of the association for a period of three years.
The electoral process which was organized at the Sierra Leone Muslim Brotherhood Primary School , Portee in Wellington on Saturday 3rd February, 2024 was conducted by the Western Area Veterans Football Club and graced by a plethora of distinguished personalities, including a Member of Parliament, community leaders and sports promoters.
Former Sierra Leone Ports Authority and Invisible Killers F.C. Maestro, Mohamed Mansaray, aka, Mat Cole, was elected president while former Goal Keeper of Alabama F. C. and SLPA F.C.Musa Ogbokus Koroma, emerged as Vice President.
The position of Secretary General went to former Warry Brothers Striker and Veteran Media Practitioner, Max A. Konneh while former striker of Stationery Stores, Amadu Orpeti Koroma grabbed the position of Financial Secretary.
The following members were also appointed to serve as executive members in various positions :-
- Assistant Secretary General, – Mrs. Isatu Newland
- Assistant Financial Secretary, – Amara Yapo Abega Mansaray.
- Treasurer:- John Kapu Smith.
- Welfare Officer:- 1. Bonor Rico Kamara. 2. Adams Olumbor kamara and 3. Ameilia Coker.
- Whip 1. Amadu orbotay Koroma and 2. Kekura Bangura
- PRO 1. Alusine Corad Conteh and 2. Abu Kambi Bangura.
- Organising Secretary 1. Amadu Deen Kargbo and 2. Foday Ayaypay Samura.
- Chief Adviser, Brima Bennett Koroma
- Honorary Members, Alhaji Abdulai Carlos Kamara, Alhaji Nfa Alie Bilal Bangura and Pastor, Samuel Conteh, respecfively while the positions of Ex-Officio members went to Messrs, Saidu Azankie Sankoh and Foday. Springett Kargbo, respectively.
In his pre- elections statement, the Chief Electoral Commissioner who also doubles as Chairman, Western Area Veterans Football Club, Issac Bangura, thanked members of ASEA for going through what he described as “an unprecedented democratic electoral process” in the history of football in the east end of Freetown. He thanked ASEA for the honour reposed in them and opportunity to oversee and contribute to the development of the association and football in the country.
Member of Parliament, representing, APC in the Western Urban Area, Mariama Bangura, thanked members of ASEA for coming together to foster unity, peace and development in their locality through the spirit of soccer. As an association for Veterans, she said the group will undoubtedly serve as a “hub as well as a point of convergence” for members, she hoped peace and unity will continue to reign among them.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected president, Mohamed Mansaray, thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and assured them of his determination to work assiduously towards promoting the ideals of the association. He entreated members to endeavour to serve the association with passion and commitment to ensure progress and sustainability while expressing the hope that there will be “light at the end of the tunnel”
Mr. Mansaray thanked members of W A V F C, for conducting the election in a peaceful and professional manner and thanked members of ASEA, both at home and abroad for their cooperation.
Vice President, Mohamed Ogbokus Koroma, outlined a number of development plans he intends to introduce so as to make the association viable, especially the empowerment of widows.
Financial Secretary, Amadu Orpeti Koroma promised to introduce prudent and transparent innovations that would put ASEA on the right path.
Secretary General, Max A. Konneh, catalogued various strides he has taken to give visibility and pride to the association. He promised to do more.
Comprising, members who played and promoted football at the then Approved School Recreational Grounds, Wellington, decades ago, ASEA was established on 20th February, 2014 by a group of well- meaning Sierra Leoneans with the aim of fostering peace, unity and cohesion , promoting the development of football and addressing welfare needs of members.
