The Wise Bird has been receiving complaints and counter complaints from parents/guardians and even from school-going children about the unnecessary extortion of monies from their parents/guardians by schools authorities.
However, whenever the bird receives such complaints, he has a system of not just taking the bull by the horn by trusting these reports of such nature.
The bird will first of all do an independent investigation to get correct and accurate information about any reports he has got.
The Wise Bird flew from his usual seating place all the way to the far-east to see for himself the reality on ground.
The bird as brave disguised as a parent visiting one of the schools (name withheld).
The bird went to see the Head-teacher/Principal and was referred to one senior teacher who is in charge of exams/results.
The Wise Bird was welcomed by the teacher as he asked the bird, “can I help you sir?” the bird responded, by saying “yes sir.”
The bird said, “am here to collect my son’s report card (the young Parrot)” the teacher said to the bird how “do you come like a man?” the bird asked teacher what do you mean sir?
The teacher said you have to pay the sum of Nle 30 for the result sir. Hearing this, the brave bird fumbled with words thinking it was free but he had to pay because he wanted to see his son’s result and also sought a way of confirming the allegation levied against school authorities.
The bird went to central schools and the far west and the situation there is the same.
The brave bird already knew he was not supposed to have paid the said amount for result; he only did so as a way of appreciating what the teachers had done.
The bird knew it was wrong to make a demand by the teachers, and in the same token, some of the teachers are not on pay roll. And the bird is not defending the wrong doings of the teachers, and as it was just a way of sympathizing with them (the teachers) over their poor conditions of services.
The bird has five (5) school-going children in different schools, and the amount the bird paid was told in one of the schools is different; meaning there is no uniform amount; the cost varies as one may go to other schools.
The bird sounded the views of some other parents/guardians; they have the same experience as the Wise Bird.
One of the parents even asked the bird whether school results are now for sale?
The Wise Bird is calling on the government to harmonize the salaries of teachers.
