A high-profile drug case has drawn local attention in Freetown as four individuals appeared before Magistrate Sahr Kekura at Pademba Road Court No. 1. The accused, Andrew Momoh Jah (a bike rider), Daniel Kamara (a laborer), Zainab Kamara (a businesswoman), and Thomas Leigh Koroma (unemployed), face 13 counts of drug-related offenses, including manufacturing and distributing the illegal substance known as “kush.”
The charges stem from an incident on November 20, 2024, at No. 66 Kanu Drive, Temne Town, Allen Town, where they were allegedly found producing kush without lawful authority. Their offenses include:
Manufacturing, producing, and distributing prohibited drugs
Transporting and collecting substances for drug production
During the trial, CID Officer Amara Safiya took the stand for cross-examination. Defense lawyer M.S. Bangura, representing the fourth accused, questioned Safiya about his experience and handling of statements. The officer confirmed his eight years in the force and stated that the accused had been informed of his legal rights before voluntarily giving a statement. However, it was suggested that the officer could not recall specific answers given by the accused.
In another cross-examination, M. Gayvawo, representing the third accused, challenged the allegation that his client was involved in the crime, arguing that she was merely in her husband’s apartment at the time. The lawyer also questioned the seizure of 867,000 Leones, asserting that the money came from her legitimate business and family support. The officer acknowledged this claim but maintained the investigation’s findings.
The case has been adjourned to March 18th 2025, for further hearings.
