Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Freetown Magistrate Court No.1 has remanded three individuals in custody for allegedly stealing $7,000 while working as caretakers at the apartment of Sierra Leonean football star, Kei Kamara.
The accused persons are husband and wife: Abubakarr Turay, Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter, Kadiatu Turay, all face charges of conspiracy to commit a crime and larceny, in violation of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to the charge sheet, the alleged theft took place on January 15th 2025, at Fadika Drive, Hill Station, Freetown.
Prosecutors claim that the three conspired to steal $7,000 (Le170,100) which is the money of player Kai Kamara.
When the charges were read in court, Abubakarr Turay pleaded not guilty, while Fatmata Bangura and Kadiatu Turay admitted to the offence.
In a police Testimony and exhibit presentation, prosecution witness, Inspector Saidu Kamara, an clear exhibit at Lumley Police Station, testified that on February 23rd 2025, while on duty, Detective Police Officer Kargbo F.B handed over $700 and that Le11,150 was recovered in connection to the case.
He stated that he officially registered the money under the Serial No. 04-2025 as exhibit.
The recovered cash was presented in court as Exhibit A1-7 and Exhibit B.
Following the hearing, Magistrate Kekura adjourned the case to March 6th 2025 while bail proceedings continue.
