It has emerged that Bai Munu a Sierra Leonean is afraid of resurfacing anywhere into the country following his escape from mob justice fearing that he will be persecuted for being a gay member.
Reports have it that Bai Munu was caught red handed by his step-mother having sexual intercourse with his male partner on October 25th, 2023 in Bo, Southern province who immediately alerted her neighbours.
It is also alleged that Bai Munu stole a whooping sum of NLe 25,000 (twenty five thousand new Leone) equivalent to twenty five million old Leones from his step-mother, report added.
Munu had been suspected of same sex act for quite some time, but had denied the allegation for fear of mob justice given that gay practice is abominable in Sierra Leone.
Sources say, Munu and his male partner were immediately arrested by irate youths, manhandled and whisked to police station where they were detained. Munu was later released, but asked to report to the station every day. He later fled to the capital Freetown and sought refuge at Thunder Hill in the east end.
Munu faced a renewed pressure in Freetown when anti-gay activists embarked on protests for government to stop what they referred to as ‘unholy practice’ (same sex practice) in the country which they say was gaining ground in the country.
Knowing that their lives were in danger, Munu’s male partner helped him to escape out of the country.
The issue of same sex or homosexuality is regarded here in Sierra Leone as abominable act punishable by life imprisonment.
It’s against this backdrop that Munu is now afraid to return for fear of reprisal or possible death.
As we went to press last night, report have it that desperate measures have been instituted against Bai Munu to face the full force of the law for his alleged involvement into same sex act.
The exact whereabouts of Bai Munu still remain unclear.
