The most respected, patriotic, fearless and uncompromising animal was in Parliament when His Excellency the President, Dr. Julius Maada Bio was delivering his State Opening Address to members of parliament and to the people of the nation at large.
From what the Wise Bird got from the President’s address, there is nothing to write home about; no new things came up; it is just the same old story-with more promises again and plans for the future and the like.
The brave bird could have loved the President to have said new things in his speech including highlighting his failures but that he did not do so but instead his speech was full of promises for the future.
The President has failed to deliver in his first term; all what he had promised the people in his campaign he hasn’t deliver since he was elected in 2018 to date.
In the areas of job creation, it was and is still a zero he has scored, and the political landscape in the country is deeply polarized; no peace not even to talk about unity in present Sierra Leone.
The only thing that is new in the President’s speech is the issue of third-term, and even at that, let’s wait and see if he could be man to be trusted because leaders in Africa could not be trusted for a single; they are very unpredictable in doing things.
The Wise Bird also overheard the President was talking about Feed Salone; is that to the people’s ears a new thing.
My government (President Bio’s government) will focus in addressing key constraints such as finance, soil fertility, water management, mechanization, quality seed-input, infrastructure and the deployment of technology and research to boost agriculture productivities; are all those words new to the people?
They are all repetitions; and nothing new as year-in-year-out the same old story continues, with lofty promises being made.
President Bio, in his speech in Parliament, also laid emphases on agriculture and food security, in which, he said, are the cornerstone of a nation’s stability, is that a new thing to talk about in today’s polities?
He talked about a future road-map initiative that will showcase forward-thinking vision aimed at fostering national growth and development; these are all the same old speeches before now.
The Wise Bird was very happy for the President did not talk about fighting corruption and blocking leakages; because more holes have been opened more than before and corruption is under their feet.
It goes without a saying that every serious government world-over, its first priority is to seek the welfare of the people but not to make empty promises only.
There is an old adage, which says, when the leader has no vision, the people perished.
From all indications, the President, year-in-year-out, in his nation’s address only advances promises to the people.
