Bra Parrot was in court on the 4th May, 2023 to visit a long-time friend at the Pademba Road Court. To the dismay of the brave bird, the entire court was in total blackout.
What came to mind was, the days of “Kabbah Tiger” just after the war when the whole country was in total and absolute darkness.
The brave bird noticed that a good number of Magistrates were holding Court sittings in their Chambers, since almost all the court rooms were in complete darkness.
The brave bird was very much disappointed when he saw some police officers using their mobile phones to read charge sheets.
Bra Parrot tried to talk to one of the officers inside one of the courtrooms but all efforts made proved fruitless. Up to the time Bra Parrot was in Court, the entire building was in total blackout. Almost all the Magistrates were left with no alternative but to adjourn the cases on that day.
Outside the Court building, the brave bird was standing with some people when he overheard one woman saying and I quote “is this the SLPP we voted for five years back?”
Bra Parrot noticed that the Court Clerks were busy that day because they had to adjourn all the cases. From the look of things, the Government did not make any provision for a standby power generator at the Pademba Road Court.
Judges and Magistrates in any sitting Government must be respected at every given time.
Bra Parrot noticed that, some Magistrates and Judges even go without a ‘kekeh’ to take them to and from work.
Bra Parrot is not making a case for them, but it is the reality, they must be respected if not for age, but the position they are presently holding in society.
