The wise bird has been writing about the poor condition of the roads and the potholes in the city for a very long time.
Thank God other media houses have now seen the reality on the ground that what the patriotic citizen was saying or writing about was the right thing.
It is no secret that, from Calaba town up to the central of Freetown if one is to count the number of potholes, he/she will not get the correct figure.
From the look of things, both the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) and the Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA) are both working against the Administration of President Bio.
From investigation conducted by the wise bird, a large junk of money running into billions of billions of leones is allocated to run the affairs of the Authority.
The said amount is primarily meant for the maintenance of roads and streets in and around the city.
The bird would say without hesitation that, the Directors and senior workers of Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) and the Road Maintenance Fund Administration are not only aware but seeing the deplorable condition of the roads in the city, but what is important to them is to amass wealth for themselves and families.
The current state of roads in the city is more than the word deplorable to say the least. It is now time for President Bio to take the bull by the horn.
The Sierra Leone Roads Authority was established to plan, develop and maintain roads in every part of the country and the Road Maintenance Fund was also created to fund the Authority for the maintenance of all roads.
But from all indications both institutions are conniving to sabotage President Bio’s government, given the fact that potholes have continued to increase on a daily basis.
This situation has continued to cause considerable damage to vehicles, motorbikes and other equipment.
Pedestrians are also facing the burden as transport fare is unnecessarily increased by merciless drivers and motorists as a result of the bad shape of these roads.
In essence, the poor people are paying the price for what is undeniably the responsibility of our government.
What the government has however failed to realize is that construction or rehabilitation of our roads or indeed any public structure is not a favour but a responsibility because it is done by taxpayers’ money.
Imagine, the Parrot has been talking about the poor construction of Fourah Bay Road, Goderich Street among many others but unfortunately, no action has been taken by both institutions.
It is for this reason the patriotic animal should be given accolade for being the first to blow the whistle.
It should also be noted that, annual budgets are allocated to these institutions to take care of the roads but it appears all these monies are going into the private pockets of the Directors and other senior workers.
The bird will continue to make a follow-up on the situation.
