33-years-old Emmerson Bockarie who is a businessman had made another appearance before magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.1 on two count charges to defraud a person.
According to the particulars of offense on a dates between 1st January to 24th May 2024 in Morovia the Republic of Liberia, the accused conspired together with other persons unknown to defraud Isatu Jabbie the sum of sixty thousand dollars equivalent to one million three hundred and fifty six thousand Leones (1,356,000).
Count two further stated that on the same date and place with intent to defraud, the accused obtained the sum of sixty thousand dollars equivalent to one million three hundred and fifty six thousand Leones (1,356,000) from Isatu Jabbie by lying that he had quantity of gold for sale knowing same to be false.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person there was plea taken.
Deputy Superintendent of police Sorie Conteh led the prosecution team.
Witness number one Mabinty Sesay who is a businesswoman says she knows Isatu Jabbie. She says she is her younger sister and so she knows the accused in the dock.
She came to know him through a video call and she recalled on the period between 1st January to 24th May 2024 something that happened and which was why she was testifying in court.
That her younger sister stays in the United States of America and that she told her that she is on gold mining business with someone she had given her number had instructed to send two hundred dollars to a cell phone number.
The accused called her on a cell phone number she sent the money through.
She sent ten thousand dollars to the accused and the receiver of the money who is the accused was to supply her with gold which he never did.
The witness was cross examined by C. Kamara Esq and applied for bail on behalf of the accused person.
Meanwhile magistrate Bangura granted bail to the accused person in the sum of two million Leones with two sureties in like sum who must be property owner here in Freetown of the value of half of the sum contained in the charge sheet herein these sureties must operate bank accounts containing half of the said sum and must produce valid identity cards depicting his or her addresses in Freetown
A bail was to be approved by the deputy assistant Registrar matter adjourned to the 21st May 2025.
