The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the opposition All People’s Congress APC in Parliament, Hon Alpha Ben Sesay, representing a constituency in Mayamba District, has called for the resignation of the head of energy supply.
The current head of energy is the president of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio.
The MP made this call during the APC parliamentary press conference at the APC party headquarters in Freetown.
He said the reason why he wanted the head of energy ministry to resign is because he has not been able to deliver on providing regular electricity supply for the people of Sierra Leone.
Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara, Whip of the opposition All People’s Congress APC in Parliament, said one can’t continue to collect monies without given the people power supply.
He said the only solution to the current electricity problem is the inefficiency of Bumbuna Phase 2.
He said during the rains Bumbuna provides 50 megawatts but with the phase 2 in full gear the dam will be able to provide more than 80 megawatts for the country.
He said the Bumbuna phase 2 will relocate 44 villages and towns to an ideal environment which is costing government nothing, and will take the maintenance cost for several years.
He said no other company will work on the Bumbuna hydro dam because of the inclusivity clause indicated in the agreement.
“We are just doing makeshift power system, and the APC is the only party that can change this narrative.”
He said “by 2021 we should have begun selling out power to other countries” but it is the reverse as we now buy light from neighbouring countries.
“I am challenging the Karpowership of their capability of producing more than 60 megawatts.”
Bumbuna phase 2, if working, would have been able to supply light to the mobile companies and mining companies in the country.
