The wise bird being a veteran journalist always has the pleasure of flying the length and breadth of the capital to be properly acquainted with daily happenings, to be able to report accurately.
Very recently, the most respected animal flew to the far west of the capital Freetown and was fortunate to witness the launch of the newly renovated nightclub called ‘CHAPTER ONE’.
On arrival at the scene, the bird noticed the heavy security presence and wondered why, given that it was just an ordinary nightclub.
The bird went closer, and closer to get more of what was going on. Fortunately, he saw a friend who was able to explain to him in details what the programme was all about.
The bird was told that the security presence was as a result of the presence of H.E the President at the launch.
The bird starts to put one and one together as to why His Excellency President Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone should come to that level to commission a common nightclub while senior government officials would have easily done that.
As information continued to flow in, the bird noticed that the nightclub in question is allegedly owned and managed by the president’s sister.
The bird again starts to wonder why the nightclub is named ‘CHAPTER ONE’.
For all I know, Chapters are found in novels and in the Holy Bible but those chapters are divided into verses to make the readers have easy understanding.
To be candid, the bird is not against the establishment of a nightclub because it’s part of development in the country.
But what actually beats the imagination of the bird is that why no other person to perform such common duty but the first gentleman of the land. It honestly rings a bell.
Let’s think for a moment that, if the wise bird was the president and invited in his capacity, he would definitely have declined and send any of his Ministers to represent him.
As president, not all invitations should be honored or places to go for obvious reasons including personal protection. The bird again wants to reiterate that he has nothing against the opening of an entertainment center. In fact, it is part of development and it brings investors and investment into the country.
The truth is, the president wouldn’t have honoured such an invitation for heaven’s sake and those who love Sierra Leone and the president are in full support of his view.
Make no mistake; presidency is a sacred position and for a president to open a common nightclub is more than a joke.
The bird as usual went out to get the views of people on such a sensitive issue. The reactions were mixed. Some of them jokingly asked if the place is called Chapter One, then were do people find its verses?
The people didn’t hide their anger for a president charged with so many important responsibilities to attend a common programme which a headman or mammy queen would have simply done. But any way this is Sierra Leone. I rest my case!
