The Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, Wang Qing, has paid a one day familiarization visit to the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR)’s Experimental Fish Farming Station in Bo, Southern Province of Sierra Leone.
The Ambassador and entourage were at the station to have a first-hand knowledge about the fishing station’s soperation, following the Chinese government’s support to a number of areas, including the rehabilitation of Fish Ponds, provision of Water Tanks, Generator and have determined other possible areas of intervention.
Receiving the Ambassador, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, Princess Dugba, thanked the ambassador for the visit and their continued support to the ministry.
She said, the station, whose primary function is to train Fish Farmers in the production of Fingerlings, Fish Meals, Ponds and use of essential machinery, is sure to enhance development of Aquaculture in the country.
She stressed the need for capacity building for small scale Fish Farmers and reaffirmed the ministry’s determination to develop the occupation nationwide.
Speaking during a tour at the facility, the Chinese Ambassador, commended the Ministry for a work well done and pledged their continued support.
Acting Director of Fisheries, Sheku Sei, underscored the importance of the station, adding that it serves as a hub for sustainable fish farming activities in the country.
He looked forward to a continued fruitful bilateral cooperation between the Ministry and Chinese Embassy so as to widen the scope and improve the capacity of the station.
