Twenty-five year old Abu Bakarr Sesay, a cleaner, made his final appearance before Justice Isata Sellu Tucker at the Criminal session of the High Court No.5 at Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown on a count charge to wit unlawful possession of drugs contrary to section 8 (a) of the National Drugs Control Act 2008, Act No.10 of 2008.
According to the particulars of offence, on 27th October 2024 in Freetown the defendant was found in possession of 60.5 grams of Kush without lawful authority.
When the charge was read and explained to the defendant, he pleaded guilty.
The defendant was not legally represented he pleaded with the judge to tamper justice with mercy on his behalf.
Justice Tucker in her judgement said the defendant took responsibility of his actions and he did not waste the court’s time. She also took into consideration the plea mitigation on behalf of the defendant the offence for which the defendant was charge which has become alarming and prevalent in our society destroying lives, endangering public safety. She said the court and the judiciary as a whole has a duty to send a clear message that such conduct will not be tolerated. she therefore sentenced the defendant to ten years imprisonment to the male correctional facility in Freetown the quality of Kush exhibit be forfeited to the state and destroyed by the appropriate authorities. She advised the defendant to refrain from such conduct after serving his jail term.
