People of Makoray have told Africa 24 that the ‘hot – burning sun’ is causing them to have restless nights.

“The place is too hot now at night especially we that have zinc houses,” says Ya Istatu Conteh.

She was speaking to Africa 24 community roving journalist on Monday 5th May 2025.

Asked about what they do about it, Mrs Conteh said they had been told to limit the use of woods as cooking fuel.

“Few days ago, some government officials came to us and informed us about the changes on weather conditions now.”

Madam Conteh said the government officials had promised to take along few of the guys, at least two, to be trained on the sustainable means of cooking without wasting more sticks.

“They said it is the cutting down of the sticks and trees that is causing the warming temperatures.

“So they said we should instead use ” local cooking ” stoves to cook which use only few woods two or three only,” she said.
