The Chief Executive Officer of the National Petroleum Sierra Leone Limited (NPSL), Kobi Walker, has pleaded to some stakeholders to do all they could do to turn the Kissy terminal a marketable industry.
Mr. Walker made this statement on March 8, 2024 in parliament during a familiarization meeting with the Committee on Trade and Industry.
He said he was happy with the get-to get-meet with Sierra Leone’s lawmakers though, he said, it was not the first time he had met with the MPs in the well.
During the meeting, he said, they were able to share their challenges and promised to do what they could do collectively.
The unavailability of foreign currency (dollars), he said, forms part of their major challenges.
This is causing them to buying the petroleum products in dollars while selling it in Leones.
He said, owing to the stress, they had decided to convert the Leones into dollars to ensure a seemingly free and flow of the petroleum supply in the country.
He further said squatters also represent their numerous challenges.
The CEO, Walker, heaped praises on certain government institutions including Bank of Sierra Leone (BSL) Rokel Commercial Bank, the Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA). He praised them for supplying them with the foreign currency notes which have enabled a flow of petroleum supply in the country.
Mr. Walker concluded by saying that NP-SL as a company is contributing immensely to gender empowerment. He assured MPs that most of their employees are women.
