Twenty-one year old Ibrahim Kamara unemployed, made another appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road Court No.2 in Freetown on two count charges to wit office breaking and larceny contrary to section 26 (1) of the Larceny Act 1916 and malicious damage contrary to section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.
According to the particulars of offence, on Saturday 1st February, 2025 at #4c Tengbeh Town, with intent to steal broke and entered into the office of Defence for Children’s International office and stole therein five thousand five hundred leones, three pairs of slippers and other assorted items equivalent to the total value of twenty seven thousand five hundred leones (27,500) property of of Defence for Children’s International whilst in the custody of Serah Saffa.
On count two, on the same date and place, the accused maliciously damaged one cabinet, one ceiling and one lock all to the total value of eight thousand one hundred and fifty leones (8,1500) property of Defence for Children’s International whilst in the custody of Serah Saffa.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused, no plea taken.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Isatu Baba Musa lead Prosecution witness number one, John Tarawally, a finance officer at Defence for Children’s International said he knows the complainant herein she is a colleague at the said office, that he also knows the accused as a security guard at the compound housing their office.
He recalled on 1st February 2025, something transpired between himself and the accused on the above date he received a call from the complainant on mobile phone and gave him information. He said he rushed to his office and upon the information, he observed that the ceiling to the Director’s office was damaged. He said they couldn’t see the CCTV camera and the laptop computer at the Administrative officer’s and the Manager’s office where it was kept. He said they didn’t also see some pairs of slippers and trousers left at the office. He furthered that they advised the Admin Officer to report the matter to the police and statement was obtained from him at Congo Cross police station, he concluded.
The accused was not legally represented and he cross examined the witness.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused to the male correctional facility in Freetown and matter adjourned to the 7th April, 2025.
