The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, the All People’s Congress (APC), Mohamed Pope Kamara, has called on the government to declare a national fire emergency following a recent wave of fire outbreaks across the country.
Mohamed Pope Kamara has expressed alarm over the increasing frequency of fires, including recent incidents at key institutions such as State House and the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.
“These are no longer isolated events, fires are becoming systemic,” Pope Kamara warned, adding that even our most secured buildings are not safe.
Describing the situation as a national crisis, he urged the government to launch an immediate and independent investigation into the root causes, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability.
“Every Sierra Leonean should be concerned,” he stressed. “The truth is, no one feels safe anymore, not in our homes, not in our offices.”
Pope Kamara concluded with a stern warning against bureaucratic delays, insisting that the people of Sierra Leone are watching and expect decisive action from the authorities.
