The Supreme Islamic Council (SIC) Community Primary School at Rokontha village, Yoni Mabantha Chiefdom has with funding from the West end Baptist Church in Nova Scotia, Canada get a newly constructed four classroom building and office.
Mr. Michael Sillah Kamara, a Sierra Leonean disable (single leg amputee) based in Canada and a lead advocate for the school project and also a member of the said Church on Monday 10th February, 2025 officially opened and handed over the school to the community people of Rokontha.
Other facilities of the school project include hand tap, toilets and solar light system, school materials, including uniforms for both boys and girls, text/exercise books, Bible, bags, pair of shoes, soccer kits, pencils, erasers and calculators.
In his handing over statement, the Rokontha native born, Mr. Michael Sillah Kamara informed that the school is a government school. He called on the government of Sierra Leone not to forget the school for subventions and other school supplies from the First Lady Madam Fatima Madda Bio, and also the teachers, as all of the teachers in that community are not on government payroll.
Mr. Kamara encouraged the school authorities and community stakeholders to make good use of the facilities, stressing that it is their responsibility as community to take good care of them.
He promised to provide more for his home town with the support of the West end Baptist Church. He promised providing them a secondary school thereby preventing the children to walk long distances to attend secondary schools in other villages. Mr. Michael Sillah Kamara described education as the most important success in life.
Head teacher of SIC Primary School, Mr. Abdul Kassim Kabia boasted that with the support of Brother Michael Sillah Kamara they have the best school within the surrounding villages.
He described Brother Michael as the only man who has traveled abroad and never forgotten his village people, and could be regarded as man of the people.
Inspector of Schools, Mr. Raymond Abdul Kabia thanked Mr. Michael for his sacrifices and supports to them.
The Section Chief called on others to follow Brother Michael footsteps. He thanked him for the efforts and great love for the village.
He pleaded with Kamara and the West end Baptist Church in Canada to continue their support. He also thanked Kamara for the incentives given to the community teachers.
Others invited guests from neighboring villages joined Mr. Michael Sillah Kamara on calling on other Sierra Leoneans to emulate the good examples.
