The Chairperson on Committee on Trade and Industry in the Sixth Parliament Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay said Conex Filling Station (Total) management are taking the House of Parliament for granted and described their action as a disrespect and disregard to the House of Parliament.
She assured them that the Sixth Parliament is not a rubber stamped Parliament.
‘If you took my committee for granted, you will see the other part of me, the Sixth Parliament is not a rubber stamped Parliament,’ she warned.
Hon. Sesay representing Moyamba District made this statement when she was addressing Conex Filling Station on Wednesday 29th May, 2024 at the New Administrative Building in the House of Parliament.
In venting her anger, she said the committee summoned Conex through the Executive Chairman of Petroleum Regulatory Agency (PRA), Brima Baluwa Koroma.
PRA, is a regulatory body of all gas stations in the country.
According to Hon. Sesay Conex failed to honor the summon and even went ahead to ask the Executive Chairman of PRA, Brima Baluwa Koroma to ask the committee to write them formally.
Hon. Kadie Sesay described such act as a total and complete disrespect and disregard to the House of Parliament and promised them if they do such, they will see another part of her.
She made it clear that the House Parliament has the power of High Court and asserted that they can detain them at the Pademba Road Correctional, if they disrespect Parliament.
‘You were supposed to appear before the committee on Tuesday 28th May, 2024 by 11am, but you did not turn up, that is a disrespect to House,’ she said.
The Deputy Chairman of the Trade and Industry Committee Hon Quintin Salia Konneh narrated to them the roles of Parliament including the settling up sub committees and cited the relevance provisions.
Eventually, the management of Conex apologised to the committee chairperson and she promised to let go. However, she admonished them not to try such again.
