The brave Bra Parrot has been monitoring the political atmosphere in the country in order to get first-hand information within all political parties in the country, and the reason being is that the brave bird had never told lies and will never do so.
As a decent and intelligent bird, he goes from place to place, office to office, pub to pub and from street to street just to solicit the views of people young and as well as old about the upcoming 24th June elections.
Those who have been following the stories of Bra Parrot know that, the brave bird is not bias and do not take sides on issues.
Few days ago, the brave bird attended a press conference organized by the main opposition, All Peoples Congress (APC), party. At the press conference, the Leader and Presidential candidate for the APC, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara said that the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Mohamed Kenewui Konneh and Co- Commissioners should resign their positions within 72 hours.
If at all the brave bird understood what Dr. Samura Kamara was saying, Bra Parrot believes he was by then referring to the Electoral Commission as an institution and not a political party.
The following day, the ruling party Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) organized press conference to debunk and condemn statements made by Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara.
The Chairman of the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP), Dr. Prince Alexandra Harding vehemently stated that the Chief Electoral Commissioner and the other Commissioners will not resign from their positions, adding that Dr. Samura Kamara has no legal right to demand their resignations.
What surprised the brave bird was that the press conference organized by the APC was not really directed to the SLPP, but to the Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone as an institution charged with the responsibility to conduct transparent, credible and fair election by creating a level playing for all parties.
As a brave bird, Bra Parrot sounded the opinions and views of members from all shades of all political parties about the press conferences organized by both parties.
The brave Bra Parrot was astonished to hear some members of the SLPP condemning the action of their own party to organize a press conference in defense of the Electoral Commission which they are not part of, and it was indeed shameful to have ridiculed the party to such level.
But to the dismay of Bra Parrot, some members even went further to say that the SLPP of yesteryears is completely different the SLPP of today.
Other members said “you cannot cry more than the bereaved,”owing to the fact that the Electoral Commission has a public relations unit (PR Unit) supposed to have re-acted to the press conference organized by the APC and not SLPP.
As the debate was getting bitter and sweeter, one of the SLPP members said they in the SLPP are not matured in politics these days.
They also stated that the public will be looking at the SLPP and the ECSL as one or the same unit, and meaning they have a tight arrangement and agreement to rig the elections this coming Saturday.
