Impeccable sources from the Freetown City Council (FCC) have disclosed that the Council, with support from the World Bank, has put together (trained) over 700 community workers to support the implementation of the city’s sanitation by-laws.
According to information the bird had gathered, the two-day training has been part of FCC’s “Duti-mus go campaign” aimed at strengthening community outreach, raising public awareness and ensuring compliance with the regulations.
Furthermore, the training covered key areas such as grievance redress mechanisms, gender-based violence, community engagement in waste management and an in-depth review of new waste management system under the recently enacted By-Laws.
At the end of the training, the report states, workers will be deployed across the city zones, working alongside FCC Metropolitan officers to inform residents about the requirement of register for waste collection.
According to the report, all those failing to comply with the By-Laws will face a fine of Le5,000 or possible jail term.
Despite this latest development, Parrot still has problem with FCC as it has been unable to handle certain issues affecting the municipality including the effective collection of rubbish on the streets of Freetown, the control of mega-phone and loud speaker pollution, removal of school going children on the streets and failure to deal with the continuous street trading.
Bra Parrot as usual spoke to many people to get their concerns in respect of national issues; that bird contacted expressed dismay over the hopeless attitude of council for not been able to put things in place in council at the right time.
The bird will love to see every government succeeds for the betterment of the state.
