There is no denying the fact that peace of any nature is better than war or disaster on a small scale.
This is one of the reasons why many patriotic citizens are relentlessly clamouring for maintenance of our hard won peace after the eleven (11) years civil war at all cost. But since President Bio assumed political power in 2018 this country has been exposed to continuous instability that has scared away many investors who do not have confidence in our peace. This ugly scenario has over the years dented our country’s image to other peaceful nations.
Truly said, those who can recall history of our eleven years civil war are perplexed over our behaviour which does not portray a nation that went through a very terrible war which would have served as bitter lesson that totally and entirely deviate from anything that will lead us to that path again. But we have forgotten so soon to tread on that line that led us to a very dangerous scene. The fact remains that we should have been wise enough to totally negate anything that will backslide our resilience to upholding our peace.
Regrettably, we have allowed politics and hungry politicians who know the danger of war are now architects of the current fragility of our peace and if we do not handle it with care and understanding and maturity to logically interpret the danger that will befall a nation in terms of civil unrest the trend will be very dangerous for all of us; in fact God forbid!
The stark reality is the current dimension at which the country is cascading will tempt any sober minded citizen to say that we are gradually moving toward unwanted path and it became worrisome to any patriotic citizens. Before now many people apportioned blame on the youth especially those that did taste the bitterness of the rebel war but the continuous unfolding scenario is enough to explain those behind the scenes. If majority of forerunners of the Sunday 26th Nov failed coup are those who witnessed the war, then, it is sacrosanct that they have no fear of damaging our peace for their own insatiable desire for political power to enrich themselves at the detriment of the nation. Because, if anybody will imagine that to illegally remove President Bio and his SLPP led government will solve the problem in the country is far from the reality, rather it will only aggravate the problem in the country. And as it is, the only good for us is to maintain our hard won peace and wait for the next general elections to vent out our grievances through the ballot box.
Talking about ECOMOG presence in the country is good on one hand more so when their advent will bring forex in the country, yet the rippling effect is more disastrous than the good, given the fact that it will send a negative signal to the world that there is serious issue in Sierra Leone which is bad to us.
More over there advent will be interpreted with mix feeling on many Sierra Leoneans that witnessed that rebel war in both Sierra Leone and Liberia where ECOMOG troops were deployed at that time. To make reminiscence of that ugly episode that unfolded in Liberia where the late President Samuel Kayon Doe was captured and assassinated in their camp still send fear in the minds of people about the coming of ECOMOG in this country. As we have not reached to that stage, we are praying ardently not ever. In Sierra Leone also some of us can still recall how our country was looted, our women, raped and trafficked to other lands and many other bad- bad things were done to people in this nation. In fact, the ugliest scenario was when the marauding rebels were able to easily over run their various bases carted away weapons that were used to enter the city. Even though it’s just a word of mouth, yet, Sierra Leoneans have received the message with mixed feelings where some interpreted it as good, the bad and the ugly.
