The wise bird jumped sky-high when he got the news that, the President of the Republic of Sierra Leone has been elected the new Chair of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), believing that it was good news for all Sierra Leoneans.
But from the look of things, many Sierra Leoneans are not happy with the news, reasons best known to them.
Please, the bird will not want to be misquoted because of what he wants to say in respect of the regional bloc’s decision.
The bird has no problem with the appointment of the president.
The only problem the Parrot has is the 2023 general elections that were widely condemned by both local and international observers, the international community including the very ECOWAS and the African Union (AU).
What the bird did not understand is that, the same people that have been condemning the election process are the same people who have now elected the man they have condemned for not winning the 2023 election genuinely.
This development has only left Bra Parrot more confused to know the clear positions of ECOWAS and other organizations. What the bird really wants to understand is whether these bodies are supporting the controversial election of President Bio as alleged or supporting democracy?
One thing is clear though, that the bird has no voting right in this Kingdom, rather than his own animal Kingdom where he has more voice and right to vote at will.
But unfortunately this is a different republic where their people and organisations behave distinctively which is why organs like ECOWAS and others are always accused of playing double role; they can condemn the wrong thing now and support it the next moment.
However, the bird sounded the views of many people in respect of President Bio’s appointment.
It was a mixed reaction however because some expressed delight, while others especially his critics were totally against with some of them asking to know ECOWAS stands whether it’s genuinely supporting the true tenets of democracy or not.
Notwithstanding the pulling and pushing, the bird congratulates Mr. President for his new position and will love to see how he will work in his new office.
