The men’s national team Leone Stars of Sierra Leone has narrowly moved from 126th to 122nd in the latest FIFA world ranking.
News was released mid-week after securing four (4) points in World Cup qualifiers in June.
Previously ranked 126, Sierra Leone’s team follows its performance in the two matches during the World Cup qualifiers where they defeated Djibouti 2-1 an held Burkina Faso to a 2-2 draw.
Liberia remains the biggest climber in the rankings, moving up 10 positions to a new highest rank of 142nd. Liberia also scored the most points, gaining 37.47 points. FIFA world ranking is a system applied for ranking national football teams. The national teams are ranked according to the results of their match with the highest ranked teams being placed at the top. FIFA is a world governing body of football.
FIFA world ranking was first introduced in December 1992. In the first list released by FIFA, Argentina, Belgium, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands and Spain were the top eight teams. Brazil has held the number one FIFA ranking for the longest time.
