The former Member of Parliament who represented Constituency 42, Koinadugu District, Hon. Lahai Marah has lampoon Gento Group of Company regarding the Auditor General’s report findings.
According to Lahai Marah, things are not getting better at all, adding that it is the worst report for over 8 years.
The MP further that, the Accountant General’s Department continues to excel in Preparing the GPFS with an unqualified Opinion.
On External Debt, he said from the audit report Over 4 trillion in Old leones (4 billion new leones) was unverified. Hon. Marah stated that the report from the GPFS and Creditors not the same.
He maintained that our National Debt is overstated.
He said as a Member of Parliament then, he raised this issue severally that; there is need to investigate the Public Debt.
He opined that huge corruption embedded within the Public Debt of Sierra Leone, adding that, this it is perennial.
Hon. Marah pointed out that his 13 million dollars given to Gento Group in 2022 as a loss in delays for work done in 2018, is a concern.
He said with a contract of above 42 million dollars and a payment of 39 million dollars made, which is over 80% percent.
“Where is the 13 million dollars and where does it span from” he asked.
According to the AG, there is no sign of inspection or any assessment done, but 13 million dollars was given to Gento Group, “for What?” the MP asked.
Hon. Marah revealed that the 13 million Dollars can construct over 100 Six Class Rooms Building with Staff Room, head Teacher’s office and with proper sanitary facilities.
The 2022 Auditor General’s report has staggering revelations where millions of taxpayers’ money unaccounted for.
The report also accused several institutions of government of misusing public office while money spent with no supporting documents.
Overspending above budgetary allocation, double dipping and poor performance in MDAs are among the issues raised in the Audit findings.
