Ibrahim Idrissa Fornah, a Sales Agent, has made his first appearance before Magistrate Santigie Bangura of Pademba Road court No.2 in Freetown on two count charges to wit fraudulent embezzlement contrary to section 17 (1) (a) of the larceny Act 1916 and money Laundering contrary to section 25 (1) (a) of the Anti-money Laundering and combating of financing terrorism and financing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction Act 2024, Act No.4 of 2024.
According to the particulars of offence on a date unknown between 1st March 2024 and the 27th January 2025 at #20 Circular Road, Western Area in Freetown, being an employee to Excel Biolife SL Limited at #20 Circular Road, whilst serving as sales agent with the responsibility of distributing pharmaceutical drugs and receiving payments, fraudulently embezzled the sum of four hundred and sixty thousand seven hundred and nine Leones(460,709) which is property of Gautam Govind Rath his employer.
Count two further stated that on the above date and place, the accused person being an employee Excel Biolife SL Limited at #20 Circular Road the Western area in Freetown whilst serving as a Sales Agent with the responsibility of distributing pharmaceutical drugs and Receiving payments from customers converted the sum of four hundred and sixty thousand seven hundred and nine Leones(460,709) and built houses knowing same was directly derived from an unlawful activity.
When the charges were read and explained to the accused person, and there was no plea taken.
The prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh sought for a short adjournment date for him to get proper conference with his witness.
Counsel representing the accused person H.Kamara Esq applied for bail on behalf behalf the accused person, confirming that he is a Sierra Leonean resident and that he has reliable sureties who are willing and ready to go into recognisance on his behalf.
And he will not interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses nor will he jumped bail and he made his application pursuant to section 79 2 of the Criminal Procedure Act No.32 of 1965.
Meanwhile, Magistrate Bangura refused bail and sent the accused to the male correctional facility in Freetown because of the serious nature of the offence charged matter adjourned to the 11th March 2025.
