Information is always very important but it depends on where such information comes from and who is the informant.
According to information reaching the wise bird is that, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has urged the government of Sierra Leone to control their expenditure rate.
Furthermore, the report states that, government has missed targets in three areas in spite of what they referred to as significant progress made in dropping inflation from 54.5% in October 2023 to 13.1% in February 2025.
According to what the wise bird got as information, the three areas of concerns are: (a) Net-Domestic Asset, (b) Net-Credit to government and (c) Net-International Revenues.
The three missed targets are due to largely higher-planning capital spending on roads and energy in 2024.
However, the report states that, to address this situation government and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have agreed on corrective measures to improve revenue collection and to keep the spending within budget as stipulated immediately and these three targets are being met according to the report, and there will be unlock additional support from the World Bank and European Union and allow the country to continue negotiations.
However, the bird was also made to understand that, the government was asked to be fully committed to the said programmes and reforms needed as they put it, to maintain economic stability, support inclusive growth and also to improve on the lives of the citizens.
As usual the bird went out to get the views of people; all those the bird came in contact with are all in support for government to control its expenditure which according to the people they believe, is the main problem affecting the country’s economy, adding that government’s expenditure is too high, the people said.
More offices are created in this government at the detriment of the economy.
On this the wise bird is advising the government and by extension the President of Sierra Leone to stop making new appointments so that the economy will stand tall again.
The bird is watching!
