In spite of the collaborative efforts government through the respective institutions including but not limited to the National Telecommunication Authority (NaTCA), Office of National Security and the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) to crackdown especially on cybercrimes, that however effort appears to be yielding little or no fruit.
This is so because many people especially victims believe that Sierra Leone has recorded high level of cybercrime including bullying, stalking and hacking of mobile devices over the last couple of years.
Many innocent people have been targeted by perpetrators who in many instances have hoodwinked them living them in a state of shock, disbelieve and embracement.
These criminals have special skills to hack mobile accounts and use the numbers to call their victims’ contact persons requesting them to credit the victim’s accounts purporting they are in critical position and needed help. This has led several victims to send their hard earned cash to these criminals unwittingly.
Although some people have become aware of these criminals and their nefarious activities, others are becoming prey on a daily basis and no one is spared by these hardcore criminals as a long as their targets keep using these digital devices.
It’s against this background and the protection of the unsuspecting citizens that concerned authorities have been requested to step up their vigilance.
