The proliferation of unregistered carwash centres especially within the Central Business District (CBD) is said not only to be disrupting daily activities of important offices as well as other businesses, it is also said to be destroying the beauty of the once nice looking city altogether, although their establishments also aim at engaging unemployed youths roaming the streets.
This situation has been compounded with lawless commercial motorbikes riders’ refusal to avoid the CBD as they are always in running battle with police to get rid of them.
Previous as well as the current governments have still not been able to address this menace, which has led to the disfiguration of once beautiful city.
Until the activities of these both these carwash centres, makeshift garages and commercial motorbike riders are perfectly controlled, it will be difficult for the city to have a good look, though in essence their operations is a room to engage jobless youths.
The Freetown City Council (FCC) charged with the responsibility to ensure that the city is always well cleaned and kept, has been squarely blamed for doing little on nothing to address the situation, instead, its focus is entirely on collecting daily market dues from traders.
It is observed that some vehicle owners in most cases prefer to go to these unregistered and unlicensed carwash centers because their prices are cheap, ignoring the inconveniences of other people or offices in its entirety. And this is the more reason people have shifted the entire blame to the FCC in order to do more to swiftly address the issue to keep our city clean and beautiful once again.
