One day, after a hard day’s labour, as usual Bra Parrot retired home very tired and perched at the quiet side of his abode away from his noisy family to reflect on the hardship and untold suffering he and his fellow Sierra Leoneans have experienced over the last five years (5) that has reduced them almost to destitute in their own beloved country.
The Wise Bird recalled those days when things were rosy in the country with families going to bed happily and wake up happily the next morning because their bellies were always full.
Wives were respecting their husbands as children were doing same to their parents and as a result there were peace and unity at every home because husbands were able to at least take care of the day’s responsibilities.
But unfortunately though, things changed immediately the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) came to power in 2018. Many Sierra Leoneans lost their jobs including the hard working and most patriotic Bra Parrot for obvious reasons. And the consequences have been dire, with wives and children now doing things on their own because many men can no longer cope with the prevailing economic heat.
Can you imagine that even the much talked about bread and butter issue this same government was endlessly preaching for when in opposition has died off and the reckless spending they were also preaching against has undoubtedly taking a center stage in the country with the governor just creating new offices which many have seen as “jobs for the boys.”
As a true patriot of this Republic, Bra Parrot will not stop contemplating on how our people are struggling to get something to eat. To say things are hard with every one of us or in sympathy with anybody can be an understatement.
But having stated all this or the struggle we are going through, I want my fellow compatriots to know that Sierra Leone is the only land we can boast of and nowhere else.
Of course there is no doubt about it that we cannot live peacefully in another man’s land without being questioned, molested, harassed or intimidated as it’s currently happening in neighbouring countries.
It is against this background that the peaceful and most patriotic citizen, Bra Parrot is appealing to his brothers and sisters to please sum up courage and protect our country in every little way possible we can, because HOME IS HOME.
We cannot afford to destroy the country because of few greedy, selfish and unpatriotic people who only want all for themselves and nothing for the needy.
And for those who have died pauper fighting to defend democracy at the detriment of their own lives may their souls rest in peace as “A luta contiua.” (The struggle continues)
