At the Public Account Committee’s (PAC) hearing On Tuesday 20th August 2024, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon Ibrahim Tawa Conteh, disclosed that the sum of Le 50 billion has been recovered by PAC.
According to Hon Tawa Conteh, more money will be deposited to the consolidated revenue fund (CRF) in the next coming weeks.
These are monies that the audit report discovered during their findings while conducting their audit, he added.
The Deputy Speaker pointed out that most of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) year-in, year-out fail to act upon the Audit reports and its findings.
He said the essence of the PAC’s intervention on audit report is to ensure that public officials take audit queries very seriously and should work towards maintaining accountability in their offices.
He furthered that, in his PAC’S quest to collect public funds, he considers no one a friend or a brother.
He assured that by the time PAC completes its work, billions and billions of Leones would have been collected.
Hon Tawa Conteh assured that PAC will be meeting councils in the provinces this week to scrutinize them on queries in the audit report.
“I want by next year the volume of the Audit Service report will be reduced because some of these queries will not be in the Audit Report of 2023, ” he emphasized.
He further said that the PAC is not only collecting people’s monies but, also looking at the management of processes and procedures in offices while working towards enhancing accountability and transparency in all offices.
The Deputy Speaker has also urged the Clerk of his committee to inform the Sierra Roads Authority (SLRA) to pay the £3,500 to consolidate revenue fund and must bring proof of payment to the PAC committee.
