The newly appointed Minister of Information and Civic Education, Chernor Bah has in a bold statement promised to give his full support to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) action against Niger. He added that Sierra Leone Government is ready to standby any decision taken by ECOWAS relating to Niger crisis.
The Minister continued that the government is ready to partake even if it is not directly represented in the discourse. The Minister disclosed that Sierra Leone’s interest in Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is seen through the participation of the Chief of Defense Staff, Major General Peter Lavahun in recent ECOWAS Military Chief meeting held in Abuja.
He furthered that, the Chief of Defense Staff strategizes mechanisms for potential intervention and lucidly and vividly revealed that the deployment of RSLAF personnel is core on president Bio’s leadership decision. The Chief of Defense Staff informed that’’ the country had allotted RSLAF personnel to the standby force of ECOWAS, he disclosed.
He revealed that the allocation of personnel to the ECOWAS standby force position of the country is to partake in such intervention when the need arises. He also emphasized that to partake in such intervention; involves the highest level of authority. The ECOWAS standby force has been authorized to instill peace in the state.
Following the body’s meeting which included several Head of States from various ECOWAS members’ States. The President of the body emphatically pronounced that ‘’ we order the committee of defense staff to shot up the ECOWAS standby force in an order to return constitutional order in Niger,’’ he stated.
ECOWAS Chairman, Bola Tinibu made his submission that inject into the potential regional ramifications of the crisis revealing that Niger political impasse poses threat to the West Africa’s stability. Most western powers had pronounced to render help to Niger to return political stability in order to resolve the situation. Among these issues, the Military junta had announced the formation of a new government headed by Mohamed Ali with twenty-one cabinet Ministers.
