For the past electoral process, Sierra Leone’s Politics has flung into one of the most Convulsive years in the annals of our politics. The New Direction Establishment of Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio needs a defining mission that can rally both his ruling party, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), and the opposition parties for peace and Unity, as our country is being haunted by the spectre of hatred and disunity in Politics.
The people of Sierra Leone have been provoked and insulted by the toxic nature of tribal, regional and Partisan politics. A Culture that has been dividing us against ourselves. It would be a great and wonderful reform if we stood up and fought back as “One People, One Country”.
Is Proportional Representation and Power Sharing an antidote to the political reforms in Sierra Leone? With the recent electoral chaos in our Country’s elections, the proposed reforms have demonstrated the case for a power-sharing government.
The Opposition All People’s Congress Party (APC) has made unfounded accusations as an excuse for its election defeat and an increase in its political toxicity. These reforms will serve as a placatory measure to redefine Sierra Leone’s political system.
But the big question now is whether it is a political rancour amongst various political parties in the Country or is it just a mutual political recognition for President Bio’s potent political strategy?.
Electoral reform and Power-Sharing under the New Direction Establishment looks like a strategic renewal of the voting system in Sierra Leone as a modernising technique in rebranding our governance system under the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP ) establishment.
President Bio’s political career in Sierra Leone is unmatched due to his talismanic quality that is embedded in his SLPP Party’s ideological diversity which ebbs away regional and tribal tension . Will the political reforms exacerbate all the doubts surrounding the political reforms and the President’s ability to keep his establishment in Power?
His plan for reform in his governance system will determine whether the Country will decisively choose a new electoral order that will translate the President’s Popularity across the Country. But can the Proposal win the support of the voters that characterised the national voting issue?
Is there anything wrong with the new reform of the Power-Sharing government as its effect is dizzying, and the reform’s credibility lies with the President’s full commitment to the system, or is it another form of a legacy?
Is it the right time for the people of Sierra Leone to get carried away about the President’s proposed reforms? Or is it a way to see President Bio as the Patsy who embraces and restores our country’s democratic reputation?
But such proposed reforms have created election jittering and worries about a potential election reform with a cause for concern as politicians and political party leaders are busy creating a toxic political atmosphere of concern .
With his gleaming prominence, President Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio’s political reform in Sierra Leone is not a political choice but an obligation to prevent the country from the toxic Politics currently being practiced by politicians based on tribal and regional trajectories.
With concerns raised amongst the Citizens about the state of Sierra Leone Politics and the direction it seems to be heading. As patriotic Citizens of Sierra Leone, we believe that, the destiny of our country is to embrace Peace and Unity and not animosity.
Indeed President Bio and his New Direction Establishment should create a political edge in the Country that Convinces the People of Sierra Leone. With the economic crisis in the Country, yet a flush of Optimism is needed as our country’s present political chaos is connected with the tribal, regional and Partisan decay which can never bring sanity in our politics.
President Bio’s Second term in Office has been defined by his diplomatic Partisan engagement of the Tripartite and Power-Sharing Unity government , but has been met with a stiff chorus of Criticism. Yet the people of Sierra Leone stand strong as a bastion against hate, tribalism and regionalism and stand firm as a beacon of hope.
With resilience, I hope the people of Sierra Leone will hold on to the progressive principles of our country high with pride and dignity, rather than hiding them in shame and fear as the unique history of our country has shown some perspective of remarkable peace and Unity.
Let us not allow our country’s history to define us. The past years have been the darkest and toxic years of our politics. As such, the Power-Sharing government is vital to our democracy and our Peace and Unity. As “One People, One Country” we need to abridge the grievances of those we disagree with to avoid normalising hate and vengeance.
That is why the President Rtd. Brigadier Julius Maada Bio is on a roadmap of comprehensive Power- Sharing Unity government of inclusive and resilient political culture that will honour our Country’s democratic legacy.
LONG LIVE THE PEOPLE OF SIERRA LEONE
GOD BLESS US ALL
