Residents at Nene chiefdom in Koinadugu District are having more difficulties in traveling on one of Sierra Leone’s most perilous roads in Koinadugu.
They say the roads are in very bad state especially in the rainy season.
Motorist riders are also complaining the same about the slippery roads at Nene chiefdom in Koinadugu District.
One of the motorist says: “this is one of the dangerous routes in this district between Simbariya and Foriya in Koinadugu District.”
Koinadugu District is dotted with chain of mountains which make travelers to find it very hard to move from one village to another.
Between Simbariya and Foriya, there is one typical mountain which is so slippery.
It is called Avoid Foriya or Ka’Neimla in the Nene chiefdom.
A bike rider (okada man) from Masingbi Town, showed Africa 24 a picture of an old woman who is likely in her 80s, climbing the Avoid Foriya Mountain in their trip to other towns in Nene.
Back then when motorcycles where not available as commercial transport in Sierra Leone, usually, it takes one months to travel from one town to another town in Koinadugu District.
Koinadugu District is believed to be the largest district in Sierra Leone. But it is still one of the poorest in the country. It has more bad roads than any other district in Sierra Leone.
This is affecting residents who live in this northern region of Sierra Leone.
Koinaduguans are suffering a lot for a means of transportation. Their business activities are mostly affected due to the poor road network in the district.
Sometimes, traders and travelers do not get any means of transport to take their goods to the markets in urban towns like Makeni, Masingbi and Magburaka in Tonkolili District.
Not all drivers and riders like to ply through Koinadugu’s
bad roads in Sierra Leone.
