Despite limited government supports to Judo, Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh has openly commended Sierra Leone Judo Association (SLJA) over its significant efforts in expanding the sport to the marginalized communities across the nation.
The Chief Minister expressed his passion in meeting with the SLJA President.
He announced that the association is set to inaugurate its first International Judo Academy against next week.
This event is anticipated to be a landmark moment in Sierra Leone’s sporting history.
Mr. Massaquoi, the President of Judo Asso. highlighted the association’s dedication and achievements despite receiving minimal government support.
“Why am I so passionate about this Judo Association?” Dr. Sengeh stated.
“With minimal support from the government, they’ve been able to mobilize support and expand their sports to the previously marginalized groups.”
The International Judo Federation (IJF) is reportedly supporting SLJA’s efforts, which aim to promote the widespread adoption of judo throughout the country and to ensure equal opportunities for all citizens.
Last year SLJA established the Blind Judo Federation, an initiative launched by Chief Minister Sengeh himself.
This program focuses on providing judo training to women, girls, and individuals with disabilities.
This strategic move aligns with the association’s broader vision of fostering a radically egalitarian environment.
