Magistrate Sahr Elogima Kekura, a seasoned judicial officer with a distinguished career in Sierra Leone’s judiciary, has been appointed as a High Court Judge.
His elevation marks a significant milestone in his legal journey, reflecting his dedication and extensive experience for presiding over many cases across the country in various districts.
Born on May 30, 1976, in Kono District, Justice Kekura is a devout Christian and a proud Sierra Leonean.
He is married and fluent in English, Krio, and Mende.
This mix – upbringing enabled him to connect effectively with people and diverse communities within his country, Sierra Leone.
Outside his professional commitments, he enjoys reading, listening to music, playing or watching games and sports.
Justice Kekura’s academic foundation is solid and comprehensive.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Fourah Bay College (2000–2003), followed by an LL.B (Hons) from the same institution (2004–2008).
He further advanced his legal education at Sierra Leone Law School, obtaining his Barrister at Law (BL) in 2009–2010.
Additionally, he holds a certificate from the Interregional Institute of Maritime Security in Abidjan, specializing in the suppression of crimes at sea.
He has also completed various courses on case management, disrupting illegal wildlife trade in West Africa, and in environmental law back in 2021.
His earlier education includes studying at Government Secondary School Bo and Holy Trinity Secondary School Kenema.
Kekura’s professional journey began as a Pupil Barrister at Brewah & Co from 2010 to 2011, after which he signed the permanent register in 2012.
However, it was his move into the judiciary that truly defined his career.
From 2012 to 2016, he served as a Magistrate in the Moyamba and Bonthe Judicial Districts, gaining valuable experience in handling a wide variety of cases.
He then transferred to Port Loko District as he was overseeing cases in Lungi and Mile Siaka (2016–2017), followed by a tenure in Tonkolili District covering Mile 91 and Bumbuna (2017–2018).
The esteemed legal practitioner worked briefly in Kerene District from August 2021 toNovember 2022 transferred to ross Road Court from 2022 to 2023.
His dedication and professionalism earned him a transfer to the Freetown Magistrate Court No. 3 on Pademba Road.
In 2020, he was promoted to Principal Magistrate and transferred to Magistrate Court No. 1 on Pademba Road, where he continued to serve diligently until his recent appointment as a High Court Judge.
Throughout his career as a Magistrate, Kekura has been recognized for his diligent approach to promoting justice and his unwavering commitment to upholding the principles of rule of law.
His extensive experience in the lower courts has given him a deep understanding of the legal challenges faced by ordinary citizens.
As he takes on his new role at the High Court, Justice Sahr Elogima Kekura, is sure to bring with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and a proven record of a committeed service to Sierra Leone’s judiciary.
