Leone Rock Metal Group (LRMG), the leading mining company in Sierra Leone, has officially commissioned the Aberdeen-Lumley solar electrification project yesterday.
The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, along with the National Tourist Board, had earlier appealed to LRMG for support by providing them solar power to enable the sectors to beautify the Aberdeen-Lumley beach and its surroundings.
Addressing the gathering during the commissioning ceremony, Fatmata Mida Carew, the General Manager of the National Tourist Board, expressed gratitude to LRMG for their timely donation, especially during a month focused on celebrating and creating innovation within the Ministry and the Board.
She emphasized the desire to elevate the Aberdeen-Lumley beach environ to an international standard.
In his remarks, Hon. Mohamed Sheriff Rahman-Coker, MP for the Aberdeen Community in the Western Urban district, highlighted the significance of the solar electrification project for the community which thrives on entertainment, fishing, tourism, and culture. He commended LRMG for fulfilling the Tourism’s ministry and National Tourist Board’s request, thus praising the company’s notable corporate social gesture and a pack of other CSRs activities across the country.
Dauda Sillah, deputy administrative director of LRMG, emphasized that the solar electrification project reflects the company’s commitments to complementing government efforts and supporting Sierra Leoneans.
He affirmed LRMG’s dedication to fostering stronger-ties with the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the National Tourist Board.
The Deputy admin director emphasized that the company’s primary focus remains on beautifying the beach through the solar electrification project by supporting the Ministry of Tourism and the National Tourist Board.
He maintained that LRMG operational areas are Kingho mining company in Tonkolili and Kingho Railway & Port in Pepel in Port Loko district as he reaffirmed the the company’s core focus on mining activities.
During his keynote address, Kwame Yankson, permanent secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, underscored the importance of the initiative to electrify the Aberdeen-Lumley beach in attracting tourists and investors.
He highlighted the project’s role in driving domestic tourism campaign.
He appealed to LRMG to install a portion of the solar electrification at the Aberdeen roundabout and in addition at strategic areas on the beach.
The ceremony concluded with a symbolic turning of a sod.
