In a bid to maintain peaceful atmosphere for the locals in Lunsar and its environs so that they can carry out their daily activities and go to bed without the fear of being attacked by criminal gangs, the newly transferred Local Unit Commander Superintendent George Momoh in his wisdom has embarked on engaging community stakeholders in his area of responsibility including Rogbere police post, Gbomsamba, Feredugu and Kamasondo.
This development has been welcomed by all the stakeholders. Talking to the Africa24, Mr. Augustine Sam, a senior teacher in Feredugu said he is impressed with the move the new LUC has taken, noting that this is the first time they have witnessed such venture. He said prior to the transfer of the new LUC to Lunsar, the ongoing development was just a lip service. He said through the new LUC, many has now been educated that the police has transformed from Police Force to Police Service and that they have been educated on their own roles and responsibilities. “This is the type of development we have been expecting from the police,” the teacher added, assuring they are ready to help the police to prosecute any criminal activities in their environment. Mr Augustine further called on other
Local Unit Commanders to take this initiative to their own areas, insisting that this method will help fight crimes in their respective various communities.
Talking to LUC Momoh in a snap interview, he told Africa24 that indeed the police have moved from police force to police service. He said they used to work with the locals because they owned the police. He said: “We the police are servants to the people,” he added, noting that the police cannot work without the people, which is why he said he has decided to embark on such initiative to meet them so that they can share ideas in maintaining peace in their communities.
Asked about his vision, LUC George Momoh said peace in Lunsar is a priority considering that fact that it’s a mining area and mining companies are paying huge taxes to government which is used for national development. Dilating further, he said he want to see mining companies in Lunsar carry out their activities in peaceful environment free from criminal activities.
